Merry Christmas from Coppell, Texas!!!

I made it to Texas today! What a treat to see Jenna and Reagan. And of course, it's great to see Ian, Anayansi and Cami too! It was clear and crisp when I got in. The house is beautiful! Their Christmas tree is gorgeous but most of all just fun to be here. Tomorrow is our last day of last minute shopping. Southwest Airlines damaged my bag...... the one with the presents in it. Not too much damage to the gifts other than the boxes they are in but my suitcase is totaled. I don't know if I am up to even putting the claim in. That is the only negative thing from traveling all day today. So I am finally going to enjoy my holiday here in Coppell. The only thing missing is Brooke, Evan and McKenzie! I'll see them next week though. Happy holidays!

Oh Happy Day!

I have quite a few reasons to be happy today! First of all - my ward Christmas party last night went really great! My prayers were answered when people I had not even planned on- showed up to help. It was a marathon day with very few hiccups! We did run back to the store THREE times... but the food turned out wonderful. The hit of the night was the karaoke challenge between all the auxiliaries. I must say the Young Women won hands down!! Santa made a fun entrance and that ended the evening on a high note. Always fun when the Family Ward Party has lots of participation. Now I can enjoy the holiday season and get ready to go see Reagan and Jenna!

Then my second reason for being happy is McKenzie is finally getting better! Poor sweet child has been so sick. I drove over to see her today.  She is finally eating and not "Spitting" anymore- her words for throwing up! We all went for a drive and while out looking for horses and cows in the hills overlooking the Bay Area Kenzie announced "I am happy now!" Bless her little worn out body!..

My third reason for my state of being  is that Brooke and Evan have finally announced publicly the impending arrival of my FOURTH grandchild!!!!!  Brooke has been feeling really crummy with fatigue and nausea, then caught a cold too. I have been worried she will get worse with whatever Kenzie has had. So far that hasn't happened. So it doesn't look like I will make it to Coronado for the 4th of July this coming summer like I had hoped. I will be playing Gramma - which will be way more fun!

One last note about happiness-- today is Brianna's 27th birthday!!!! I have known Bri since she was 4!!!! Now she is a beautiful married woman! I think of her as another daughter! She is one of the funniest and most upbeat people I know! So I am happy to have her in my life. She and Courtney make the cutest couple.  Happy B-Day Bri!!!

Stay Healthy!

I have had a busy week this week. Work is demanding and I am still working on the Ward Family Christmas Party that is this weekend. The only days off from work I have left for this year will be my days I will be in Texas for Christmas with Ian and his family. I can't wait for that!!! But this week has also been really hard for Brooke and McKenzie. They are both sick with terrible colds. I want to go and play mom and grandma and take care of them but I can't..... It's a 2 hour drive and I have to be at work and I have to get this party taken care of. I have been in charge of big parties at church a lot with the Single Adult Program so I am used to the pressure. But the buck stops with me so I have to be here to deal with it all. So, I'm sorry Brooke and Kenz! Not that Brooke would even expect me to be there --- but if I could I would. When does one stop being a mom????? Apparently never!!!!!!! At least not for me! I still think I have the power to make things all better like when the kids were little! I know that truly isn't the case but I still like to think so! I really expected to be sick by now since I was with them this past weekend but I'm not! I have been taking Airborne and other vitamins and washing my hands every 20 minutes. So far so good! There are no guarantees, however- Brooke is more careful about germs than anyone I know.  Nevertheless--- as we all go out into the craziness of the holidays-- be careful! I will try to practice what I preach- "get your sleep, eat smart, wash your hands!"

I thought I would add something worthwhile in this blog! Here are some fun pics--

Aunt Rosemary

I love that I am so close to all 3 of my grown kids. I know I am their mom but I also think of myself as their friend. Maybe that is more my perspective than theirs, but that's ok. My day is the most complete when I have talked to each one of them that day.   I was never close to my own mom and she passed away when I was 24. We didn't have a chance to become friends as adults. But I have been fortunate enough to have someone in my life that has been a wonderful friend and mother figure. My mom's sister, Rosemary, is the best example anyone can be as to what family is all about. She lives in Oklahoma so I don't see her very often. But I try and call her as much as I can. It's been a year since I have seen her and I hope to see her in the spring of '08. I can tell her anything! She is genuinely interested in every aspect of my life.  She has 2 daughters, 7 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and actually more children, grandchildren and great-grandkids than that because she loves Vernon's (her 2nd husband) family also. She knows how old each and everyone is and where they are and what they are doing.

When I was young, growing up in Southern California, we would go to visit all the cousins every summer. I loved being with Kathie and Vicki, my cousins, on their farm.  During the school year Rosemary was a high school English teacher. During the summer she took care of the family and farm hands. Roses (which is what I call her more often than Rosemary) would fix the equivalent of a Thanksgiving dinner everyday for the family and the farm hands. The big meal of the day was always in the middle of the day. Lunch was called  dinner and dinner was called was called supper!! With her gentle smile, Oklahoma accent, and loving touch she made every visit special.  At one point in my life when Ian was 2 and Brooke was a newborn we even lived with Rosemary and Quentin. Steve worked the farm with Quentin. That was a crazy summer! Farm life is a hard way to make a living! We learned so much that summer.  You are at the mercy of the weather for the wheat and alfalfa to grow.  One bad hail storm can destroy months and months of hard labor and that year's crop.
Having been widowed twice she shows tremendous stamina and courage. She is a true Christian in all she does. She loves her family and her Heavenly Father. I have never seen her angry or ever heard her speak a harsh word about anyone. She has a wonderful sense of humor and tells the best stories! I am so grateful to have her in my life and as part of my family.  She is a true friend that I love very much.  I only hope I can become a fraction of who she is.

Attitude of Gratitude

I have to admit this time of year is not an easy one for me. I get overwhelmed with all I want to accomplish, knowing full well it won't all get done. I'm going to Texas for Christmas so I won't even be putting up a tree this year. So this morning I was feeling rather bah humbug! But I have a ton to get done so out the door I go. It's the only Saturday until after Christmas that I have free. After hunting forever for parking I was able to get into a few stores. As I left each store I found myself getting more and more into the spirit of things. Maybe a small sense of accomplishment helped after I bought a few gifts! But then I thought about all the other things I need to do...... did I mention I am now the Ward Activities Chairperson for my ward with the Christmas party only 2 weeks away??????? ( I was only put into this position 2 weeks ago- is that fair????) Yikes!
SO I had a long conversation with myself to try and remember what the season is all about.  I will focus more on my faith, family and friends.  And less on the material side of things. I can only do what I can only do, right? It will work out- it always does!

Thanksgiving 2007

Welcome to my blog!!! I have been wanting to do this for quite awhile.... but due to computer limitations I was unable to until now. I am now the proud owner of an iMAC and have a lot of new venues to work with! My hope for this blog is to be able to let all my family and friends know what is going on in my life and be able to chronicle significant events. Please feel free to comment - it lets me know you were here!  Everyone is so busy- myself included. Stopping by a blog is a great way to keep up with things in a few short minutes. My perception of blogs is that mostly the younger generations do this....  so hopefully you all will forgive me when I get a little cheesy or corny at times!

This is Thanksgiving weekend. Brooke, Evan and McKenzie were here and it was so fun. Evan did a fantastic job of connecting my computer, transferring things from my old computer, and gave me a few great lessons on the MAC world. I think I'm gong to like it but it is different!!!! My other computer was so old- it was so frustrating! This one is so fun - the graphics are amazing. I am really excited to be be able to do more with my pictures and music. So bear with me while I learn this stuff! Having McKenzie here was a blast. She is so fascinated with my cat, Jade,  it's hilarious. She talks to her like they are friends and Jade is talking back. I love it that she yells "Gramma" every 2 seconds if she doesn't know where I am. I love it that you can joke with her and tease her and she will joke back.

This was a pretty low key Thanksgiving - Brooke and Evan did the Run to Feed the Hungry here in Sacramento- along with 22,000 other people. I stayed with Kenzie and watched the crazy crowd. We had a great dinner late in the day. Cami was able to be at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC!!! How fun for her! She had dinner with friends. Ian, Anayansi, Reagan,  and Jenna had Thanksgiving at their new house with her parents. I had fun talking to all of them on the phone. I am so looking forward to going to see them at Christmas!  I have so much to be thankful for. The list of things I am grateful for is so long I don't want to bore anyone. But having my health so that I can be with my family and friends tops the list.
